Job Title: Principal Policy Advisers (three roles)

Working For: Joseph Rowntree Foundation

Location: London

Salary: £66,000 (+ £5,000 London weighting)

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation invites applications for these exciting – and unusual – new roles that have been created to help us realise a new ambition: to lead and convene new thinking and ideas, drawing on a range of perspectives, in response to the deeper social and economic conditions on which poverty rests. Each of our Principal Policy Advisers will hold a brief for an issue (or a cluster of issues) where change is needed to help solve poverty, and will be responsible for leading distinctive and powerful work that makes an impact. These are not principally managerial roles, but instead offer the space and resources to create, connect, convene and, ultimately, cultivate ideas to catalyse social change.
Working closely with our Director of Insight & Policy, you’ll design and lead innovative programmes of work, working with colleagues across JRF as well as using our platform and resources to nurture policy & ideas generation more broadly, including through connecting, convening and commissioning to bring diverse perspectives into dialogue. By linking to JRF’s work on campaigns, advocacy, ‘emerging futures’ and social investment, you’ll also seek out ways to bring our policy & ideas to life. The three broad areas of focus we want to cover are as follows (though successful candidates will have considerable scope to shape priorities within these broad fields):

  • Care, family, relationships
  • Assets, debt, wealth, ownership
  • Work, technology, markets, risk sharing

Candidates must bring a track record of influential policy & ideas contributions, and your portfolio to date will be distinctive for its quality, creativity and rigour. Able to shape the policy and political conversation at a national level, you'll be a ‘go to’ voice for original thinking and expertise among decision makers and opinion formers, and will be happy operating across events, print, broadcast and social media. You’ll bring inveterate curiosity, a powerful commitment to social justice, and a rich network of relationships from a diverse range of sectors and backgrounds. You’ll be a natural relationship builder, connector and convenor, with a strong commitment to openness and pluralism.
