Job Details

Bambos Charalambous, Shadow Middle East and North Africa Minister and Labour MP for Enfield Southgate is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to provide policy and research support in his Westminster and constituency offices.

The role will be an integral part of a friendly and dedicated team and will involve dealing with both Bambos's shadow ministerial role and constituency policy enquiries.

The role may also include contact with NGOs and representatives from other countries and will sometimes require working to very tight deadlines.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Drafting policy responses.

• Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data to ensure Bambos is accurately informed on key issues as they occur.

• Speech writing in collaboration with other team members.

• Drafting written responses on key issues for constituents or preparing internal briefings.

• Helping to draft media responses on relevant issues if required.

• Helping Bambos build relationships with relevant organisations and individuals.

• Assisting Bambos with other duties as required.

• Impeccable attention to detail, political sensitivity, and good judgement.

• A good team player.

• Support for the aims and values of the Labour Party.

The following skills are required:

• A commitment to deadlines.

• A professional manner when interacting with NGOs and representatives from other countries and members of the public.

• An understanding of Labour’s key policy positions and its political commitment to the upholding of international law and human rights.

Desirable:

• An understanding of the political and cultural situation in the countries in the Middle East and North Africa brief would be an advantage.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
