Job Title: Summer Work Experience + REMOVED

Working For: Ranil Jayawardena MP (North East Hampshire)

Location: Odiham, Hampshire

Salary: Voluntary

Length of Contract: Summer 2022

Job Details

Ranil Jayawardena MP is conscious that it has been hard for many young people to gain experience in politics during and in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

That’s why, as he has done in many of his six years in Parliament, he is willing to offer highly motivated individuals this opportunity during the expected summer recess, fitting flexibly around any other commitments they may have, e.g. paid work, holidays etc.

This role will place you at the heart of his constituency work in North East Hampshire and provide valuable insight into his work as the local Member of Parliament – and offer the opportunity to gain political and campaigning experience too, should you wish.

Duties include:

  • Data entry and analysis;
  • Assisting with letter writing and literature design;
  • Resident surveying;
  • Office administration;
  • Diary management;
  • Organising events;
  • Drafting press releases; and
  • Digital communication.

Skill and Values:

  • Polite and professional conduct;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Hardworking, flexible, pro-active team player;
  • Strong communication and organisational skills and able to take the initiative;
  • Good computer and technology skills;
  • A creative side; and
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Volunteers will be expected to be able to get themselves to and around the constituency on days they are undertaking work experience. The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no expenses or remuneration paid, no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Closing Date: 5 June 2022

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews are expected to take place in June, with a view to the successful candidates beginning their work experience in late July (though this could be earlier or later depending on the candidate's requirements).
