Make a difference to the UK’s future.

The work of the Home Office is never dull. Working at the very heart of the British government, we are focused on making the country an even safer place. With a broad remit that extends from policing to fighting terrorism, we also protect our borders, and fight against slavery. With an ever pressing need to support those who are seeking asylum, we uphold the highest values, and we are determined to make this country a great place for everyone who joins our rich multi-cultural society. Our Public Safety Group are at the heart of this work. With a mission to disrupt and cut crime, protect the vulnerable and enable the police, fire and rescue services to be as effective as possible, we enjoy a deeply interesting challenge – and it is within this forward-thinking team that you could find an exceptionally fulfilling role.

As one of our Senior Policy Advisors, you will play an instrumental role in helping us monitor, shape, develop and implement policies and legislation that will make a tangible impact on the lives of the nation. These policies are often in politically contentious fields, so you will enjoy a fascinating challenge as you work with a variety of internal Government partners and external experts such as Police and Crime Commissioners, and the security and intelligence agencies to provide evidence and advice to Home Office ministers and senior leaders. With the capacity to determine how your team can deliver the right outcomes, you will have the scope to influence at all levels, so this is a role that offers fantastic long-term career prospects. Just some of the areas that you could work across include: crime reduction including international and organised crime; tackling the exploitation and abuse of women, girls and victims of modern slavery; policing policy and reform; fire policy and the reform of the fire and rescue sector; or the spending review for the police.

To be successful in this fast-paced team, you will need be able to analyse and present complex information to a variety of audiences. Great writing and reasoning skills are therefore essential, and you will be a collaborative team-player who has plenty of initiative and good leadership qualities.
