Job Title: Senior Media & Communications Adviser

Job Details

Based at our Head Office in London, the Senior Media & Communications Adviser will be responsible for

  • Supporting the Senior Media & Communications Manager and the wider team to protect and enhance the reputation of the CBI through strong media coverage
  • Proactively writing press releases, articles, statements, tweets and CBI materials for publication in the media, on the CBI website and across social media/digital platforms
  • Managing day to day media enquiries, including arranging TV, radio and print interviews, and confidently briefing journalists on CBI policies and related issues
  • Organising a wide range of media interviews, press conferences, photo calls and media roundtables, preparing relevant briefing materials and ensuring spokespeople are fully briefed
  • Monitoring the news cycle in their areas of responsibility and advising relevant CBI teams on media strategies, which are then delivered by the successful candidate
  • Providing strategic support within the media team in the execution of key communication outputs – not limited to the successful candidate’s areas of responsibility
  • Providing media support to staff across the CBI, and increasing coverage in areas of policy
  • Attending and providing hands on media support for flagship events during the year – including the CBI Annual Conference and Annual Dinner, as well as political party conferences
  • Fostering and maintaining relationships with media, as well as key internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the social media team in developing content for existing channels to ensure CBI messages reach a wide audience of key stakeholders
  • Participating in the out of hours Press Office rota

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience in media relations, journalism or public affairs
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Excellent creative writing skills and good all-round communicator
  • Sound judgement, strong news sense and political nous
  • Ability to work under pressure/meet tight deadlines
  • Strong understanding of national, regional, trade and digital/social media
  • Strong understanding and interest in current affairs/business, economic and political environment
  • Evidence of good pre-existing relationships with journalists
