ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the Content Writer and Press Officer will contribute to the European Movement’s objectives of campaigning for a closer relationship with the European Union, and growing the European Movement as a mass membership organisation, through:

  • Developing, writing and delivering compelling and persuasive written content for the organisation’s public relations, communications, media and campaigns activity
  • Identifying, developing and capitalising on press and media opportunities for the organisation and its spokespeople
  • Coordinating with the Director of Communications to input into a long-term, evidence-based communications plan designed to shift public opinion on the European Union

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, write and deliver persuasive copy for the press and media, the website, email marketing campaigns and speeches
  • Build and manage a forward-looking editorial, content, press and media calendar
  • Keep on top of and monitor current affairs, and proactively seek out opportunities for EM to respond either in the media
  • Ensure timely press releases to support EM activity and build EM’s profile and influence
  • Source appropriate content for our website, communications channels and for media
  • Maximise use of our media monitoring, contacts database and listening tools to measure impact and improve KPIs
  • Handle enquiries from journalists and other media contacts
  • Contribute to the development of press and media campaigns, in line with agreed political objectives
  • Identify opportunities, issues and risks relating to our external communications or the external environment
  • Handle press and other communications enquiries outside of regular office hours
  • Maintain and develop relationships with journalists and stakeholders including identifying opportunities to build new relationships
  • Work with the Digital Manager to optimise online content for search engines
  • Help to develop the European Movement’s broader, long-term strategic communications plan designed to shift public opinion on the European Union on an ongoing basis

The successful applicant can be based at our office in Central London or at home anywhere in the UK. Home based applicants must be willing to travel to London for occasional team meetings and events.
