Job details:

A well qualified and appropriately experienced person with excellent organisational, communication and IT skills is required to provide full-time administrative support in George Howarth’s constituency office.

Key responsibilities:

• Diary management – arranging meetings, visits and events
• Responding to correspondence, emails and telephone calls
• Updating website
• Attending meetings and surgeries and taking notes
• To develop a knowledge of parliamentary procedures, monitor parliamentary and media activity and brief MP
• Keep records and manage information in line with data protection legislation
• General office duties
• Assist with casework as required

Person specification:

• A graduate or with extensive relevant experience
• Well organised with ability to prioritise and work under pressure
• Possess excellent IT skills
• Able work both independently and as a member of a team
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with close attention to detail
• An ability to deal with a wide range of people with discretion and empathy
• Good understanding of political sensitivities and able to demonstrate commitment to aims and values of the Labour Party

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
