Have you always wanted to combine your passion for politics with skills undertaking research and creating online content? If so, this is the ideal job for you.

Dr Rosena Allin-Khan is looking to recruit someone to work on Research and Digital Communications in her team. Working with Rosena and her team, you’ll help her reach audiences in relation to her role as a local MP for Tooting and the Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health.

In less than six years as an MP, Rosena has sent over 100,000 emails to local constituents, has built up over a quarter of a million followers on social media platforms and regularly features in media. As part of her team you’ll contribute to this work, researching policy areas, writing briefings, creating videos and graphics, drafting emails, working on her website and much more.

If you are the ideal candidate, you will have some of the following qualities:

  • Experience using social media platforms.
  • A basic understanding of video recording and editing.
  • The ability to create graphics for use online.
  • The ability to understand a political issue, interpret data and draft a written briefing on that topic.
  • The ability to look for relevant information, analyse official statistics and use this to inform policy and decision making.

The perfect candidate will have these desirable but not essential qualities:

  • Experience of creating videos, including subtitling, in a short time period.
  • Experience of creating political graphics and literature.
  • Experience of writing briefings for politicians, as well as giving verbal briefings.
  • Experience of maintaining a website (using a portal to create pages, make forms, posting blogs/news), coding experience not necessary.

Every candidate will have all of these essential qualities:

  • Great people skills – you will have patience, along with a calm, professional but empathetic manner.
  • Excellent IT skills, including using spreadsheets, word processors and email applications.
  • The ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard.
  • The ability to adapt to changing environments, juggling many responsibilities at once with a constantly positive and flexible approach.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and be able to demonstrate this.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
