Project Description: Working Families’ Policy and Influencing team is seeking a researcher to help create a set of internal policy briefings. The documents are intended to provide colleagues with easily accessible statistics and contextual information to inform comms activity, external briefings, and presentations. These briefings will include a summary of key evidence and an overview of findings from significant pieces of research related to our five policy areas:
- Maternity and parental leave policy
- Early years and childcare
- Flexible working and job security
- In-work benefits and social security
- Equalities and Access to justice
Hours & location: Full-time working (with flexibility) is preferred due to project timetables, however PT options/flex can be explored for the right candidate. Remote working, hardware is not provided.
Duties:
- Reviewing research contributions from policy and academic communities – including policy reports from think tanks, charities, academic studies, and quantitative research from ONS or surveys conducted by Working Families
- Updating the policy briefings with relevant findings and references
- Commenting on the strengths or weaknesses of the evidence base
- Summarising any relevant statistics along with Working Families’ policy calls in an accessible format for colleagues to use
- Supporting the Head of Policy & Influencing to make the policy work accessible to colleagues
Person Specification:
- Research experience, ability to produce literature reviews, and summarise research
- Ability to discern relevant research evidence given the aims and mission of the charity
- Experience using quantitative data: awareness of issues regarding sample sizes, distinctions between UK vs constituent parts, working parents vs family households etc.
- Strong writing skills, able to convey complex information in a concise, accurate, and clear manner
- An independent and quick worker who demonstrates initiative
- Awareness of employment or family related policy areas or data sets
- Able to format and present work in Word neatly and professionally
