Job Title: Constituency Volunteer Internship

Job Details

We offer a six-month volunteer internship programme in our constituency office in High Wycombe.

The position is intended for those who wish to gain initial experience of working in politics and for an MP as a caseworker and policy researcher in a constituency office.

Duties will include:
• Supporting the work for the senior caseworker
• Answering the office telephone and emails, and dealing with routine enquiries
• Drafting correspondence
• Attending to constituents who visit the office
• Meetings with constituents to take details of their case and to obtain consent for MP's casework
• Uploading files to Caseworker MP file management system (training will be given)
• Preparing briefs for constituency meetings and surgeries
• Atttending constituency visits with the MP

The successful candidate will have good administration and organisationall skills and be able to work to deadlines on their own initiative. They must be computer literate. They must be hard working and practice the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion. They will have strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). They will need to be compassionate and patient with individuals and families in often distressing circumstances. They must be willing to work collaboratively and remotely with the MP, his team and public and private stakeholders.

You will be working primarily with Mr Baker's senior caseworker and office manager who will delegate tasks.

You should be sympathetic to the views of the Conservative Party and should be able to display an active interest in British politics.

As this is a voluntary position, time commitments and flexibility will be by arrangement. It may be that you would like to volunteer around a part-time job.

The position will have a fixed start and end date which will span a six-month period.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

The start date will be on the successful completion of the security vetting procedure; July 2022 preferred.
