Job Details

Join our team to make a change in your career and to local communities!

NALC is the membership body for English local (town and parish) councils. There are around 10,000 councils in England with over 100,000 councillors and of course you will get to work occasionally with the champion of parish councils, Jackie Weaver. They hold a wide range of assets, raise about £600m per annum from residents through a small share of council tax, called a precept and support communities to the tune of around £2bn annually.

We are supported by a network of 43 county associations, independent bodies who support councils on the ground and set our objectives and strategic plan.

We're looking for a talented, passionate individual to join our policy and communications team and work at the heart of our campaigning and communications activity in support of England’s 10,000 local (parish and town) councils.

You'll get to work with a variety of our staff, at national, county and local level, while supporting a number of projects that will not only underpin our new strategic direction and help build stronger communities, but also enhance your skills, capabilities and career.

You will support our national campaigns, policy development, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, publications and events.

About you
You will have an understanding of and interest in local government and issues affecting local communities, ability to cope with complex situations and to bring an organised approach to manage those situations and the ability to understand and monitor financial information.

The ideal candidates for these roles will be open to developing new skills and trying projects and while they may not start the role with skills and experience in all these areas, they will be able to demonstrate their passion and interest and commit to actively seeking opportunities to grow these skills.

NALC is committed to equal opportunities and values diversity in its workforce.
