This role sits within the External Relations Directorate at the University of Birmingham with very close, day-to-day working with the Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
The role will support the Vice-Chancellor in engagement with the government of the day, and political stakeholders from other parties, working to create links and connections to senior politicians and civil servants, in the West Midlands and in Westminster as well as to support the University’s international political engagement aligned to its ambitious Global Top 50 strategy.
As part of an investment in and commitment to raising the profile of the University with government, enhancing the reputation and building the influence of the University with regional and national political stakeholders, this is a fantastic opportunity to build on existing successes and lead an exciting programme of activity.
Working collaboratively with partners across the University and externally, the Senior Public Affairs Advisor will play a vital leadership role in building strong, well-informed and committed relationships between the University’s executive leadership and its political stakeholders to enhance the institution’s influence, impact, reputation and profile.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in the implementation of the University’s long-term strategy, seeing the purpose and vision of the institution have a positive impact within our community, nationally and globally.
This is an exciting new role for someone with excellent national political contacts and a strong desire to develop the University of Birmingham’s relationships in Westminster. This role will require agile working, with 2-3 days a week in Birmingham and frequent travel to London and elsewhere expected.
