Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 (depending on experience)

Job Details

A unique to opportunity to work in the busy Parliamentary office of a Member of the Scottish Parliament. You will assist the Member on a variety of research tasks, as well as supporting him in his role on the Constitution, Europe, External Affairs and Culture committee. Other aspects of the role include:

• Obtaining and compiling relevant research documents from external bodies.
• Maintaining an up to date knowledge of policy areas and local issues.
• Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data and statistics.
• Lodging written parliamentary questions and FOI requests.
• Providing briefings for the MSP on key issues as required.
• Carrying out research projects.
• Gathering and distributing valuable data that supports activities of the MSP.
• Assisting with some constituency casework.
• Carrying other miscellaneous tasks as required by the MSP and/or Head of Office.

About you - Requirements

• Have a keen interest in Scottish politics, and have sound political judgement.
• Have excellent communications skills, and have an attention to detail.
• Have analytical skills with an ability to identify and investigate trends, and interpret data.
• Have an ability to probe for further information where required.
• Have excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workloads during busy times.

About you – Desirable

• Knowledge of issues affecting the Highlands and Islands Region.
• Knowledge of issues concerning the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture portfolio.
• Sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
