Job Details
Opportunity to work as a Parliamentary Researcher for an extremely active Conservative MP. This is a demanding but rewarding role with an opportunity to make a real difference. The position requires a person who is highly organized and fully committed to providing support to Bim in a fast-moving working environment.
Experience of working in Parliament is preferable, but not essential.
Knowledge of the local area of Hitchin & Harpenden is preferable but not essential.
The successful candidate has:
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proven research skills with the ability to draft correspondence and briefings, and to write succinctly and confidently
• Working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming Parliamentary business, with an understanding of how they impact the constituency
• Exceptional levels of organisation and the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Sympathy for the aims and objectives of the Conservative Party
• Ability to write persuasively and communicate complex policy themes with simplicity
• Impeccable attention to detail
• Resilience; capable of dealing with large workloads
• Able to prioritise instinctively
• Able to work independently but support the wider objectives of the team when required
Responsibilities will include:
• Drafting and sending correspondence to constituents and third-party organisations on a wide range of issues
• Liaising with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve matters
• Undertaking research and prepare briefings on local, national and international policy issues
• Suggesting parliamentary questions in line with local priorities
• Monitoring legislative agenda
• Helping to organise community engagement events
• Ensure records managed confidentially in line with the Data Protection Act
