Job Title: Committee Officer

Working For: London Assembly

Location: London

Salary: £42,411 per annum

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

As a Committee Officer at the London Assembly, you will undertake a unique and challenging governance role at the heart of London politics.

Using your experience of working in a party-political environment and successfully managing formal committee meetings, you will become part of a team supporting committees scrutinising matters of importance to the wide variety of people who visit, live or work in London. Working closely with scrutiny and communications colleagues, you will further the committees’ work programmes, on topics as diverse as London’s Covid recovery, the Ultra Low Emission Zone, flood resilience, and high-rise cladding.

With high profile guests including the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, London Fire Commissioner, Transport for London Commissioner and Mayor of London regularly invited to our formal meetings, it’s not unusual to find your day’s work featuring on the evening news. This role would therefore suit someone who is capable under pressure and thrives on changing priorities in response to the latest political developments.

Working effectively with London’s senior politicians and GLA staff requires you to not only ‘get’ the big picture but also be able to capture vital details at the same time. We’re looking for a team member that relishes a fast-paced environment and is able to communicate with tact and diplomacy, particularly when navigating areas of potential contention.

This role will be based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks, as part of a wider shared service which also provides clerking support to a range of Mayoral Boards, Transport for London, London Legacy Development Corporation and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. This allows us to offer you a wide scope of opportunities for professional development and progression, as well as training provided under a bespoke contract, to help further your career as part of a regional authority.

An understanding of how local authority meetings work and the role of scrutiny in a local authority setting would be advantageous for this role. You must also have a firm grasp of the use and application of IT systems, ideally including committee management software.
