The British Dental Association (BDA) is the trade union and national professional association for dentists in the UK. This is a challenging and dynamic period for dentistry and the BDA is recruiting a Director to lead our operations in Scotland.

This is a senior, high profile role that will be responsible for the planning, co-ordination and effective delivery of BDA advice, services, products and structures to BDA members in Scotland. Working closely with senior elected officers, the post holder will represent the BDA at the highest level with Scottish Government and play a key role in the development of contractual frameworks for dentists working in Scotland.

The role is offered on a part-time four days per week basis. The post holder will be responsible for leading the BDA’s small team in Scotland; maintaining a thorough knowledge of the healthcare and related services in Scotland; establishing and maintaining a wide range of contacts with stakeholders; and participating in the development, planning and effective delivery of BDA activities across the whole of the UK.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated and capable of developing a knowledge and understanding of the healthcare, political and democratic landscapes of Scotland; have an interest in current issues facing dentistry; an understanding of the issues for professional associations such as the BDA; excellent communication skills; the ability to network widely both within and outside dentistry; and the ability to lead and motivate a small team.

The BDA has a small office in Stirling but there will be flexibility in terms of working location. This role will involve occasional travel within the UK from time to time.
