Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

Based in the NEU Hamilton House Office (London, WC1H 9BD)

The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education and we bring together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders, seeking to shape the future of education. Our members work in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

The successful candidate will focus on policy and research in relation to early years and primary education, in order to support and empower primary members and develop campaigns around good outcomes and experiences for children and young people.

You will undertake work in relation to assessment and curriculum and issues of teacher professionalism, agency and pedagogy relating to these phases of education; generating policy and campaign recommendations around which the Union can organise members and campaign nationally and locally.

We are seeking applicants with recent and demonstrable experience of policy and research within a primary context, along with understanding of the wider challenges around problematic accountability systems and top down reforms of public services. Preferably you will have gained this policy expertise in either a research or campaigns environment.

You will need to demonstrate high level analytical and writing skills and an ability to understand, analyse and discuss policy and research recommendations relating to primary teaching and learning and education systems. Understanding of the issues facing nursery education and early years settings would be beneficial.

In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-pensionable luncheon allowance currently set at £1,092, 33 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a defined benefit pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.

We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time, job-share or other flexible working arrangements.
