Job Details

James Murray is looking for a new person to join his team as a Caseworker and Communications Officer. The successful applicant will spend time in this versatile role on both casework and communications, with the ability to be flexible and prioritise as workloads vary.

The person in this role should have a good understanding of the constituency and will help James’s constituents with immigration matters, alongside other casework issues. They will also support James and his team in communication with constituents, including via events, meetings, direct communication, and social media.

The full-time role will be based in James’s office in North Greenford, with occasional days in Westminster, and with possible work some evenings and weekends. We welcome and encourage applicants from people of all backgrounds, particularly from disabled and Black and minority ethnic candidates.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend and help with surgeries and other constituency meetings
  • Deal with queries from members of the public by phone, email, social media, or face to face
  • Follow up casework on a range of matters with the relevant authorities, and draft replies from James to constituents
  • Establish, monitor, and update a social media and online presence in the constituency, and follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters)

Skills and qualities

  • Organised, attention to detail, conscientious
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A basic understanding of the immigration system is desirable
  • A good understanding of the constituency is desirable

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Deadline for application is 12:00 noon on Friday, July 1, 2022.

We expect the interviews to take place in the week beginning July 4th.

The start date for the job will be any date from August 8th onward, subject to the successful applicant's availability and any notice periods.
