Job Details

Marcus Jones MP is looking for a full-time Parliamentary Assistant / Senior Caseworker and Caseworker to join his Westminster team. 

Previous experience in similar roles and/or working for a Member of Parliament would be helpful.

Parliamentary Assistant / Senior Caseworker:

Responsibilities include:

  • providing information and advice to constituents, local interest groups and other stakeholders on a wide range of issues
  • liaising with government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and others to assist constituents
  • drafting responses to a wide range of policy correspondence from constituents
  • logging cases and data entry
  • managing and progressing workload independently
  • carrying out research into a variety of local, national and international issues as required
  • providing briefings and reports for the Member
  • attending meetings with and on behalf of the Member
  • dealing with telephone enquiries
  • other administrative duties as required

Required experience/skills:

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • experience in taking initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • a pro-active approach, a positive attitude with the ability to work as part of a team
  • strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritise a demanding workload under pressure
  • strong IT skills and ability and confidence to use casework management software (training can be provided)

 

Caseworker: (this role could be in Parliament or the constituency office)

Responsibilities include:

  • drafting responses to constituent emails and letters, including on constituency casework issues and general policy queries
  • providing constituents with information, advice and support over the telephone and in writing
  • ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive, confidential and timely manner
  • working independently to manage the caseload and progress of casework
  • other administrative duties as required

Required experience/skills:

  • Strong verbal and oral communication skills
  • Can do attitude and approach, able to take the initiative
  • Hardworking, flexible, pro-active team player, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Strong IT skills and ability and confidence to use casework management software (training can be provided)
