Job Details

Two roles have become available in the constituency office of Alun Cairns MP, with opportunities in the areas of communications, casework and campaigns. The split between responsibilities will depend on the individual’s skill and experience. Specific job titles and terms and conditions will be in line with IPSA pay scales, with the role built around the successful candidates’ experience and expertise.

  • Confident of working in a busy environment and public facing role, with a can do and flexible attitude.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a self-starter
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an attention to detail
  • Strong research, analytical and IT skills
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative and Unionist Party

Responsibilities will vary, depending on the specific role and experience of the candidate but could include:

  • Develop, manage and implement a community action plan
  • Manage arrangements for meetings with members of the public, businesses and community groups
  • Support the MP with his key constituency agenda and parliamentary outreach
  • Develop and manage social media and online presence for the MP
  • Database management using Caseworker and office software to handle administrative cases
  • Diary Management
  • Exposure to complex cases and capacity to develop a resolution
  • Handle administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
  • Open, manage and action email, post and social media enquiries
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
  • Respond to enquiries by telephone, e mail and social media, passing on queries to another team members/MP as appropriate
  • There will be a requirement for the successful candidate to work outside normal office hours, including weekends.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
