Solutions Not Sides is an education programme on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that exists to provide humanising encounters, diverse narratives and critical-thinking tools in order to empower young people with the knowledge, empathy and skills to promote dialogue and conflict resolution, and to challenge prejudice in the UK. We run workshops in secondary schools and communities across the UK providing face-to-face encounters with speakers from Israel and Palestine. In these workshops, attitudes are shifted towards seeking solutions. Our workshops enable young people to find a place of solidarity and common ground, while developing the capacity to embrace and celebrate diversity, and the skills to navigate difference and conflict.

The role

We are seeking local people to run sessions in schools for us on a freelance basis during 2022/23, and possibly beyond in the following areas:

London*
Midlands*
Yorkshire
Lancashire
Scotland
Wales
Northern Ireland

*We will be prioritising applications for people in these areas.

Function: (a) Lead and facilitate sessions in secondary schools; (b) do some outreach to local schools to expand SNS’ network
Age group of students in sessions: 14-18
Number of students in each session: Average 30, but may vary
Length of each session: 1.5-2 hours

Remuneration

£80 per session (hourly rate £40 per hour plus 30 minutes for set-up and 30 minutes for wrap-up with teacher/exiting the school). Travel expenses may also be claimed for.

Attendance at training sessions prior to undertaking delivery of service will be paid at £20 per hour.

Person specification

Educated to degree level is essential
Classroom teaching/presenting experience, preferably secondary school, is essential
DBS clearance and no criminal record is essential
Clean driving license and own vehicle is essential
A passion for dialogue, reconciliation and healing divisions is essential
Well organised and punctual is essential
Being highly motivated and able to take initiative for self-development in the role is essential
Some knowledge of our key subject areas is desirable
Strong local connections in schools and communities is desirable
A recognition of the political and religious sensitivities on both sides around discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the UK and motivation to learn about them is essential
