Job Details

The Policy and Public Affairs Manager is responsible for the implementation of Generation Rent’s influencing strategy and managing the delivery of our policy programme.

Main responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of Generation Rent’s influencing strategy
• Work closely with the Deputy Director to shape Generation Rent’s policy priorities, and prepare formal responses to consultations and inquiries
• Build our evidence base and help produce policy and research documents that support Generation Rent's organisational objectives
• Monitor and engage with legislative developments within Westminster, local government, Scottish Parliament and the Senedd Cymru
• Develop relationships with key stakeholders at a national and local level
• Coordinate engagement with supporters, ensuring all policy work is renter-led, and support volunteers to contribute to research, campaigns, and media work
• Produce easy to understand internal and external communications on complex policy issues for a wide variety of audiences, and distribution channels.
• Represent Generation Rent at meetings, conferences, and events, and act as a media spokesperson
• Plan and deliver events as part of Generation Rent’s influencing strategy
• Contribute to monitoring organisational progress on our funded outcomes

Person specification

Essential
• Significant experience of managing successful policy/influencing work
• Experience of building relationships to support influencing strategies
• An understanding of local, regional, and national government policymaking processes
• Experience of managing policy-related research projects
• Experience of managing projects and working independently to tight deadlines
• Able to build productive working relationships with stakeholders
• A good understanding of the private rented sector and/or wider housing policy issues
• Excellent written and verbal and communication skills
• Highly organised, able to prioritise tasks, and deliver to a high standard
• Experience of living in the private rented sector

Desirable
• An understanding of the media
• Experience of working with local government
• Knowledge/experience of the broader private renter movement
• Experience of social media and website content management
