Working For: Demos

Location: London

Salary: £27,000 - £31,000 (depending on experience)

Length of Contract: 12 month contract

Job Details

Demos is a highly respected cross-party think tank with a unique approach to making policy to solve our long term problems. Building on nearly 30 years of creativity, ideas and impact, Demos is working to shape a more collaborative democracy, in which power is devolved, citizens participate in policy making, and together as a nation we find answers to the challenges of our century.

CASM (Centre for the Analysis of Social Media) is Demos’ dedicated digital research hub, and a centre of excellence in digital policy.

About the role

We are looking for a brilliant Researcher with demonstrable experience in research and policy development to join our CASM team. You will be passionate about social change, enthusiastic about Demos’ and CASM’s mission, able to manage multiple projects, and keen to be part of a collaborative and dynamic team. We are especially interested in hearing from people with technical skills - especially those who have experience writing code to collect, process or visualise data. The role is on a 12 month contract initially, with the possibility of extension.

CASM works to articulate, measure and advocate for an internet and digital technologies that protects and promotes democratic values and human rights. We have unique insights and expertise across tech policy and its impact on our society, economy and democracy.

The role will suit someone interested to:

  • Author reports and create policies that are read across the political spectrum at Westminster.
  • Engage with people’s lived experiences through our research, from in-depth focus groups to analysing large social media datasets.
  • Develop our ability to work creatively with data, possibly including training classifiers on messy text datasets, and building websites to get our research across to the public in innovative ways.
  • Collaborate with partners to amplify our research findings and advocate for a stronger democracy.
  • Appear in the national media and at events to discuss your research findings and talk about your ideas.
  • Be part of a welcoming, creative community of thinkers - both at Demos and among the many other organisations we work closely with.
