Job Details

Sarah Atherton, Member of Parliament for Wrexham is looking to recruit a full-time member of staff to join her team.

The ideal candidate will be bright, enthusiastic, empathetic and highly organised. With excellent communication skills and with a keen interest in politics.

Key responsibilities include:

• Dealing with a wide range of enquiries from constituents via email, telephone and in person
• Administrative office support, file management, mail handling
• Liaising with Government departments, local council, Welsh Government and other organisations
• Researching local, regional or national issues to support the MP’s work
• Attending regular constituent surgeries or visits and other meetings with Sarah, as required

Essential requirements for the successful candidate:

• Previous caseworker experience or experience in an MPs office
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to show empathy and patience
• Experience of working with members of the public
• An ability to take the initiative and work proactively
• To manage competing deadlines, to prioritise tasks and to work independently
• Excellent attention to detail, especially in written communications
• The ability to work in a sensitive and confidential manner at all times
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages
• Sympathetic to the aims of the Conservative Party

Desired skills:

• Welsh speaking
• Previous caseworker experience or experience in an MPs office
• Local knowledge of Wrexham and North Wales
• Understanding of Caseworker.mp system
• Understanding of devolved and reserved powers

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
