Job Details

Independent Age works to ensure that as we grow older, we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose. We provide information, advice and connection services for older people; campaign on the issues that matter most to them around health and care, poverty and loneliness and provide capacity building support to others working in the sector.

We are looking for an experienced policy professional to join our ambitious and friendly team as one of our Senior Policy Officers. You will lead the policy analysis on specific themes and drive forward a programme of activity to deliver policy change that will make a positive difference to the lives of people aged over 65 and those who care about them. You will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, for example by helping shape and respond to media enquiries and presenting to civil servants and MPs.

You should have a thorough understanding of the policy development process, experience of working towards and securing policy change, and of developing credible, evidence-based policy positions and clear, accurate and convincing policy materials. You will have the ability to analyse and respond to external developments and identify policy issues quickly and effectively. You must have experience of utilising different research methods particularly quantitative skills and synthesising this evidence to make an authoritative case for change.

At Independent Age we champion inclusion and celebrate diversity to create a culture where everyone knows that they belong and can bring their whole self to work. We encourage applications from all backgrounds as we know this makes our charity stronger.

We offer great benefits including 28 days annual leave plus public holidays, a generous pension scheme with life assurance, and fantastic learning and development opportunities. We know that a good work life balance helps us perform at our best and supports wellbeing. A full-time role is 35 hours a week and flexible working hours and hybrid working is standard for everyone. But if you need a different form of flexibility, we are happy to talk flexible working.
