Job Details

Claudia Webbe MP is looking for a highly motivated Parliamentary Assistant to work full- time supporting her work in Parliament. Claudia is looking for someone who is passionate about the difference MPs can make to the lives of their constituents. The successful candidate will operate in a demanding political environment and should ideally be driven and possess the ability, awareness and motivation to respond to the challenges and to work well under pressure
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing research, advise, briefings and speeches on specific or complex subjects relevant to Claudia’s constituency and policy interests
  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Claudia is accurately informed on key issues
  • Prepare briefings and speeches for a range of parliamentary and public speaking commitments
  • Produce regular press releases and written articles in alignment with Claudia Webbe MP’s aims and values.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders, including journalists and trade union officials.
  • Ensure issues of equalities, social justice and diversity are addressed throughout
  • Organising parliamentary questions and ensuring constituents and organisations receive timely replies
  • Monitoring legislation, Early Day Motions, Hansard, debates and other relevant parliamentary business and maintaining an up to date knowledge of the legislative process and giving advice on policy
  • Support diary management for a very busy schedule in parliament and Leicester East
  • Manage requests for tours and PMQs tickets from constituents
  • Occassionally, accompanying Claudia to relevant meetings and following up on agreed actions
  • Ensuring professional records are kept, adhering to GDPR requirements and respecting confidentiality

Essential:

  • A keen and demonstrable interest in politics, current affairs and issues affecting Leicester and Leicester East
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a small team
  • Excellent research, analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Competency around understanding the business of parliament
  • Ability to understand and respond to media requests

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use parliamentary procedures
  • Experience of researching political briefings
  • Commitment to Socialist values

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
