Job Details
This position supports multiple aspects of fast-paced public affairs, including providing political and policy monitoring, intelligence-gathering and participating in meetings. As the Public Affairs and Campaigns Assistant, you will learn campaigning and influencing skills on the job, at the end of the 12 months you will have invaluable experience to take your next steps in your career.
Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Provide support for the Public Affairs team and internal stakeholders, including the CEO, Chair and President
- Provide support for stakeholder mapping and the production of written newsletters, briefings, and campaigns
- Assist in the preparation of Public Affairs reports and provide a tracking service of key developments in Parliament, all aspects of government, think tanks and NGOs
- Assist in the production of weekly political updates for senior management
- Analyse parliamentary publications, such as Hansard, and other activities such as debates, parliamentary questions, committee enquiries, statements, reports, regulations and legislation relevant to CILEX and its membership
- Assist in maintaining relationships with existing stakeholders and contacts in Parliamentary offices
- Work with designated external agencies; assist in draft press releases and other publicity activities as required
Person Specification
- A strong interest and enthusiasm for, politics, policy issues and current affairs
- A degree in Politics, Government Relations or Public Policy with at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree
- An interest in the law
- Excellent research and communication skills
- A general understanding of politics in the UK
- Keenness to learn and get up to speed quickly and an eagerness to contribute to a team environment and the ability to organise and prioritise your workload
- Ability/experience in preparing documents, PowerPoint presentations etc
- The ability to inspire trust and confidence through personal integrity with key contacts, colleagues and CILEX members
