Job Details

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Public Affairs Officer to play a leading role within CILEX’s Public Affairs team. You will be able to deliver high impact public affairs and parliamentary initiatives.

Main Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation of the Public Affairs programme and leading public affairs and stakeholder engagement activity
  • Working with the Head of Public Affairs to ensure that CILEX’s public affairs thinking is balanced and informed by the public interest, CILEX member and stakeholder views
  • Undertaking background research and drafting briefings for internal senior staff
  • Preparing letters, briefings, parliamentary questions, debate scripts, and other relevant parliamentary materials 
  • Leading and supporting the provision of regular updates on parliamentary and political activity of relevance to CILEX
  • Identifying and influencing relevant legislation and guidance
  • Providing guidance and working with colleagues on high-profile CILEx events for key stakeholders, including speech writing, and sourcing speakers
  • Building effective external relationships with key influencers in the legal, educational and diversity sectors, community leaders, MPs, Peers and policy leads
  • Providing clear communications and messaging to key stakeholders
  • Maintaining relevant records and databases of stakeholder engagement for use in campaigns

Person Specification

  • A levels/ equivalent qualification or relevant professional experiences which demonstrate equivalent academic skills
  • A strong interest in, and enthusiasm for politics
  • Substantial experience of working in an influencing role in parliament or a public affairs role
  • A network of contacts developed through public affairs experience
  • Proven experience to produce persuasive written and oral communications
  • Experience of managing a complex programme of work in a changing environment
  • A detailed knowledge of parliamentary processes and procedures
