Job Details

Kew Gardens, Richmond, Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced Government Affairs Manager to join our small team and help us position Kew to deliver its ambitious corporate strategy to 2030 – our Manifesto for Change.

In addition to the expertise and evidence Kew can provide to governments and others on protecting and sustainably using natural resources, the Kew brand allows us to engage with partners and the public to raise awareness of the biodiversity and climate crises and the importance of Nature in addressing them. We work in over 100 countries internationally with a network of more than 400 partners.

The Government Affairs team looks after the operational relationship with government as a Defra arms-length body, whilst also raising our profile as an asset to the UK and a resource upon which many across government can draw. We also look to inform policy through evidence and applied scientific solutions, and identify funding opportunities for Kew. We work with international governments and UN bodies – RBG Kew was one of the official partners of the UNFCCC at COP26 in Glasgow.

The post-holder will have experience working in a complex organisation (ideally within civil service or a large international charity), policy influence (but understanding the context of Kew being an ALB), positioning and engagement with a range of parliamentary and governmental stakeholders, the Comprehensive Spending Review process or similar funding processes, and working on science and/or environmental issues.

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction. Our mission is to understand and protect plants and fungi for the well-being of people and the future of all life on Earth.

Join us on our journey as protectors of the world’s plants and fungi.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the post.
