The Organisation:

This is fantastic opportunity to work with a leading Science institute to help break down the barriers preventing people from underrepresented groups entering the industry.

The Opportunity:

As the Public Affairs Manager you will be a part of focusing on advancing education, research and applications in the sector. You will be responsible for planning and implementing the public affairs and parliamentary activities and developing relationships with political decision makers. You will also work closely with colleagues in the devolved nations to support and coordinate lobbying activities.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leading briefings for political stakeholders, committee evidence submissions, parliamentary experience as well as taking advantage of opportunities presented through the parliamentary system
  • Communicate and arrange meetings with MPs, Lords, Civil Servants and support senior colleagues attending these meetings
  • Lead the organisation’s engagement in parliamentary events, attend events and activities in Parliament as a representative, reporting back to appropriate colleagues
  • Collaborate with the Campaign Public Affairs Manager to ensure mutual support and collaboration when influencing and engaging with stakeholders
  • Supporting other staff members to ensure they are building and maintaining effective relationships with political stakeholders
  • Maintain the database of political stakeholders’ contact details.

Key skills and experience required:

  • You will need significant experience of lobbying, working in Parliament or in a public affairs environment at a senior level
  • Political lobbying and analysis- ability to work in a political environment and understand political context to inform strategy
  • Need to be able to anticipate, identify and manage risks by integrating appropriate mitigation plans and escalating risks where appropriate
  • Express written and spoken information clearly and effectively to different audiences
  • The capability to promote and generate cooperation, to achieve collective outcomes and develop a common vision
  • The ability to be dependable, completing tasks to a high standard and a deadline.
