Job Details

Do you want to work for an organisation that makes a difference, every single day, to people from all walks of life? The people that turn to Citizens Advice need help overcoming an obstacle in their lives – from debt to evictions to trouble at work – and you can be key to them getting the support they need in the quickest, easiest, and most effective way.

We’re looking for an experienced communications/media relations professional or journalist to become our News Manager (maternity cover) - this is a senior role in the team reporting to the Head of News. You’ll significantly contribute to a creative, high-performing team that regularly secures high-quality media coverage driving national debate; positioning Citizens Advice effectively; and maintaining (and protecting) a positive reputation. You’ll help guide and coach the team to be proactive and responsive, able to anticipate and meet media needs. With an excellent understanding of the media landscape and our audiences - from decision-makers and funders, to the people who come to us for help - you’ll champion new ways to achieve our goals. An outstanding strategic communicator, you’ll work closely with other teams to deliver joined-up outputs across external-facing channels. You’ll be comfortable advising on breaking news and reputational issues, adopting a calm and authoritative approach to develop recommendations for senior leadership, including and up to our Chief Executive. You’ll be adept at influencing and communicating with stakeholders at all levels, to ensure that we develop media strategies in line with our organisational priorities.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a highly effective team with a track record of sustained, top-tier media coverage that helps to really make a difference for people.
