Job Details

Judith is looking for a highly motivated individual to be based full time in her parliamentary office to support her work in Westminster.

The successful candidate will: -

  • Possess good political awareness and judgement.
  • Be a self-starter and have excellent organisational skills.
  • Possess excellent oral communication skills.
  • Have proven research skills with ability to draft correspondence, speeches, and articles.
  • Have a strong team working ethic.
  • Be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will: -

  • Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Judith is accurately informed on key issues.
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
  • Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material.
  • Ensure Judith is fully briefed on potential questions and motions to be put to the House.
  • Give advice on policy issues.
  • Assist in writing external communications including speeches for Judith.
  • Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions.
  • Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, and House staff.
  • Ensure that Judith's current and future work in parliament is communicated effectively to  her Bradford Office so that work is effectively coordinated.
  • Support the coordination of Judith’s Westminster diary.
  • Ensure Judith is briefed for each upcoming meeting, take notes of meetings if required and draft appropriate submissions and follow-ups.
  • Assist with casework as required.
  • Take part in project work as required.
  • Provide generalist admin support.
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
