Job Title: External Affairs Advisor

Job Details

Purpose of Role:

• To help deliver stakeholder engagement across all UK parliaments
• Plan and deliver an engagement plan across a range of energy technologies 
• Monitor (and attend where relevant) parliamentary activity such as debates, motions, questions, committees and provide timely reviews of these
• Establish and maintain relationships with elected members and civil servants
• Support the Head of External Affairs in external engagement 
• Work with the team to support others within the business to ensure high quality and timely briefings on matters of importance to our members and areas of work
• Work with our members to ensure awareness of EIC’s lobbying position

Aims & Objectives:
• To raise the profile of the EIC with governments, policy makers and key stakeholders
• To inform EIC staff and members to key policy decisions, consultations and areas of interest to the association
• To represent at external events the EIC and its members
• To develop and deliver a stakeholder engagement plan to build on work already undertaken

Responsibilities:

• To review and report on the impact of policy statements and positions taken to the energy sector
• Draft papers for the Senior Leadership Team on public policy and regulatory issues likely to affect our members & hubs
• Help prepare briefing materials for senior leadership meetings and external meetings
• Help deliver a programme of activities to establish and nurture key relationships with stakeholders
• Represent the EIC at meetings and circulate notes from these to key staff
• Work with the Head of External Affairs to deliver a stakeholder engagement communications plan

Competencies:

• Experience in a external / public affairs / influencing role
• Demonstrable experience in a similar role
• Demonstrable experience of working in a policy setting
• Understanding of the public policy process and knowledge and understanding of the workings of all UK governments and devolved administrations
• High quality written skills and practical experience in drafting material for use by regulators, senior executives and politicians
• Ability to work well under pressure with prioritisation skills to meet conflicting deadlines
• Willingness to travel
