Job Details

Mike started GAU in memory of his brother David, who was murdered by ISIS in Syria, September 2014. Our objectives are to counter extremism and undermine hate by promoting tolerance, understanding and unity. Mike has addressed over 100,000 people telling the story of his family and David’s tragic death. Now GAU is a charity we are looking to build on the work delivered to date and expand our reach into youth audiences and beyond.

We are hiring a talented young intern to support our Director to deliver excellent communications, identify funding support opportunities and develop GAU activities.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual early in their career - interested in communications, administration, international affairs and countering extremism.

Role:
• Provide day-to-day support to the Director on assigned projects, maintaining the drum beat of GAU operations
• Monitor media outlets for coverage of relevance to counter extremist objectives and understand developments in industry approaches
• Provide support - input into drafting press releases and assistance in managing social media
• Support new funding bids by drafting case studies -  draft submissions, conducting necessary desk research
• Opportunity to research and write subject relevant thought leadership pieces
• Conduct media outreach & follow-up
• Some administrative support

Essential skills:
• Fluent in spoken & written English
• Excellent research, writing skills, outstanding attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal, communication skills
• Team player with a ‘can do’ attitude, able to work on own initiative
• Strong analytical skills, curiosity, understanding / awareness of international current affairs and UK CT policy
• Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage workstreams, deadlines
• Proactive engagment with the Director and management team
• Experience writing PR materials

Desirable skills:
• Current understanding of CVE environment and UK CT policy
• Interest in PR & communications, youth engagement, administration

We hope this internship will enable us to offer a permanent paid position if individual performs well.

Interns should be able to make a commitment to a 1 day a week internship for three months, with the potential to increase hours.
