Job Title: Head of the Policy Chair's Office (maternity cover)

Working For: City of London Corporation

Location: London

Salary: £68,390 - £78,160 per annum inclusive of London Weighting (pro rata)

Length of Contract: 9 month fixed term contract

Job Details

The Office of the Policy Chair (OPC) is the primary conduit between the Policy Chair, Members, all parts of the City of London Corporation, and a diverse range of external stakeholders, including central government. We advocate for the City’s financial and professional services organisation and promote the City internationally.

You will lead Private Office support to the Policy Chair, a senior political leader within the City Corporation. You will oversee the Policy Chair’s extremely busy diary, prioritising meeting, event, visit and engagement requests in a manner that ensures the City Corporation’s corporate and strategic aims are best achieved. In addition, the role will be responsible for supporting the Deputy Chair, two Vice-Chairs and newly appointed Policy Leads.

You’ll need to have a good grip on all issues in the portfolio, while being able to remain calm under time pressure and demonstrate effective prioritisation.

You’ll oversee the work of a small team which currently includes an Assistant Private Secretary and two Executive Assistants. This is a new team within the Corporation, so you’ll have a chance to create new processes and aren’t shy of taking initiative or trying new things. You will set clear direction, build an identity for the team and create a positive working environment. You will build effective working relationships within the OPC and play a wider leadership and management role.

You are a self-starter, collaborative and a team player. In previous roles, you’ve successfully navigated central government, London government and/or other public sector bodies, while also working closely with, or perhaps in, private sector organisations. You have a solid understanding of the most significant policy challenges facing the City of London Corporation and how these might be tackled. You have an exceptional record within similarly complex environments and are inspired by driving continuous improvement. Specific experience of working in a Private Office environment at a senior level would be ideal.

Strong leadership and management skills are also critical to success. You’ll be capable of building strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders, and motivating people through change. Exemplary communication, influencing and engagement skills are expected.
