Job Details

Rachel Maclean is the Member of Parliament for Redditch and was recently appointed Vice Chair of the Conservative Party.

Working across these responsibilities Rachel has a well-established and hard-working team, which is looking to recruit an intern. The role will be focused on supporting the team by dealing with the various policy and casework demands.

The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, be enthusiastic, organised and hard-working. This could be suitable for someone who is currently studying at university or has an equivalent commitment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start a career working in politics and develop skills within a busy office.

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Demonstrable ability to engage in self learning, and pick up new skills quickly
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • An understanding of politics and the role of an MP
  • A good knowledge of current affairs and policy issues
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
  • Ability to engage with constituents in an understanding, kind, and compassionate manner
  • Excellent IT skills with experience using Microsoft Office
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
  • Trustworthy, reliable, and discrete

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Rachel and the team with drafting policy responses to constituents
  • Supporting with wider office tasks as required
  • Engage professionally and considerately with members of the public and other MPs’ offices

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Redditch constituency or Worcestershire more broadly

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interviews via zoom or another platform will take place remotely on a rolling basis and the successful candidate may be appointed before the closing date. To start as soon as possible.
