Job Title: Coordinator, National Security and Children's Rights

Working For: Child Rights International Network (CRIN)

Location: Internet

Salary: £30,000-£34,000

Length of Contract: 12 months fixed-term contract, with possibility of extension subject to funding.

Job Details

One of the main issues we work on is the impact of national security policies on children’s rights, with a particular focus on the UK. This work includes the campaign to end the recruitment of children aged 16-17 by the UK armed forces, and a project pushing for UK counter-terrorism measures to respect children’s rights, mindful of the global dimension of these issues.

We are looking for someone to coordinate this work. The majority of your time would be spent on the military enlistment campaign, but you would also have some input on the counter-terrorism work, and occasionally other work on related issues. You would work closely and collaboratively with a consultant writer/researcher, and with other CRIN staff as needed.

Your responsibilities would include:

  • The coordination of all stages of the project: planning; formulating strategy; carrying out project activities; and monitoring, evaluating, and reporting;
  • Building relationships and conducting advocacy with relevant decision-makers, including parliamentarians and defence/security policymakers;
  • Building and developing relationships with relevant organisations and individuals;
  • Working with other staff/consultant to conduct research and draft resources for the project, e.g. briefings for decision-makers, submissions to relevant bodies, and occasional research reports;
  • Seeking media coverage for the issues, e.g. pitching stories, liaising with journalists, responding to interview requests;
  • Monitoring relevant news and policy developments, identifying opportunities to exert influence;
  • Working with CRIN communications staff to create communication pieces for the project, including content for the website, social media, and newsletter;
  • Representing CRIN in relevant coalitions/networks and at external events/meetings related to the project;
  • Participating in organisation-wide activities such as regular team meetings and collective decision-making.

Key details:

  • Location: UK. From home, with the option of working from the London office if based in/near London. Occasional travel to London (funded by CRIN) will be required.
  • Hours: Full-time (32 hours per week, to be spread over 4 or 5 days).
  • Annual leave: 23 days, plus UK public holidays and office closure between 27 December and 1 January.

Closing Date: 3 January 2023

Interview/Start Dates

Start date: as soon as reasonably practicable.

Interview dates: TBC.
