The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education and we bring together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders. Our members work in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

We’ll ask you to work on a range of education policy issues enabling us to generate guidance, lobbying and campaigns about girls and women’s rights and on LGBT+ inclusion in education that have an impact. You’ll need to have a solid understanding of the education policy from an equity and social justice perspective and experience in a relevant policy or research environment.
You will need to have the ability to work credibly with teachers and school leaders and to understand the current picture for the school curriculum and its assessment. Understanding how education unions can build the influence to change workplaces and empower members around teaching and learning is going to be important.

We are seeking applicants who are innovative and passionate about girls’ rights, sex equality and LGBT+ inclusion and who can connect these educational issues and aspects of learning to the wider changes needed in education such as on teacher retention, respect for teacher professionalism and students’ well-being.

We will look for evidence of strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to develop, discuss and present policy recommendations in an engaging and persuasive manner. We hope you’ll be able to work successfully with a range of stakeholders and audiences, to build common ground and build alliances and partnerships.

In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-pensionable luncheon allowance currently set at £1,188, 33 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a defined benefit pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.
