Job Details

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), is seeking an Economist and a Senior Research Fellow to join the Centre for Economic Justice. These roles offer an excellent opportunity to play a key role in shaping the Centre’s research, analysis, and policy development and to work collaboratively with others to propose and advocate for progressive economic policy.

At the IPPR Centre for Economic Justice we believe a fairer, greener and more prosperous economy is not only possible—it’s achievable now. But the scale of the challenges facing the UK is far greater than the solutions currently on the table. We need a new public consensus and bold ideas to ensure politicians and policymakers deliver real change. Through rigorous research, analysis and public dialogue, we provide insight into the issues and make impactful solutions workable.

You will have a passion for economic justice and achieving change, along with strong analytical skills. The Economist will support projects across the CEJ programme, in particular a new joint programme between the Centre and IPPR’s environment team; and the Senior Research Fellow will lead a new workstream to develop and advocate for policy solutions to re-shape our economy for green and regionally-equitable growth. This programme will focus on industrial strategy for an economy within sustainable environmental limits, shaping open and competitive markets for investment-led growth, and increasing worker power to drive up pay and conditions. We are looking for candidates who can analyse and present data in fresh and innovative ways.

The Economist will have strong knowledge of at least one area of economic policy that the Centre works on; the SRF will have a strong knowledge of economic or environmental policy and a track-record of policy development in these areas.

IPPR is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community, and from applicants with a range of professional and lived experiences. As an organisation engaging in critical debate about a wide range of progressive policy issues, we value the creativity and range of perspectives that a diverse team can provide.

As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant to fill the post. All options can be discussed at interview stage.

Closing Date: 30 December 2022
