The role

The Royal Academy of Engineering is a charity and an unrivalled community of leading business people, entrepreneurs, innovators, and academics from every part of engineering and technology. As Senior Public Affairs Manager you will lead and coordinate the public affairs activities of the Academy, and, through the National Engineering Policy Centre, of the wider profession. This is a vital role for the Academy and there will be full support to make a huge impact. By shaping and influencing political communications you will ensure that the extraordinary insights and experience within our community reach the right audiences, with transformative results.

You will enjoy regular interaction with senior stakeholders in both engineering and government while going the extra mile to build our public profile and political networks. We will look to you to raise the profile of engineering on the national stage, so we need a high-calibre professional who can hit the ground running. You will be the Academy’s guide to navigating turbulent political situations and utilising our world leading expertise to inform political debate on high profile issues such as net zero, levelling up, education and skills, productivity, and healthcare.

Managing the Public Affairs and Policy Projects Officer, together you’ll drive forward our engagement with regional and developed governments and find creative ways to connect with parliamentarians. You will be an inherently collaborative individual, capable of building productive and respectful relationships with colleagues, partners, parliamentarians and thought leaders. You must have excellent written and verbal skills and a proven ability to work at pace. You will be innovative, always looking to develop new approaches to achieve policy impact and raise our profile.
