Job Details

Bright Blue is an independent think tank. We have a big mission: to defend and improve liberal society. We are recruiting for two new senior researchers.

Role 1 - Senior Researcher: Employment & Economy
You will lead our work and fundraising efforts on employment and economic policy, providing expertise on areas including tax, labour market policy, personal finance and pensions.

Role 2 - Senior Researcher: Energy & Environment
You will lead our work and fundraising efforts on energy and environment policy, providing expertise on areas including net zero strategy, energy efficiency and conservation.

The successful candidate for either role will be industrious, a self-starter, demonstrate intellectual creativity and rigour, and will have excellent attention to detail. They will design, secure funding for, manage and deliver high-quality research projects and manage junior members of staff. Experience of using statistical software to handle large datasets for quantitative analysis and line managing junior employees is desirable.

Key responsibilities
Research

  • Creating new research ideas, drafting research proposals, and fundraising for our research work
  • Designing, conducting and analysing literature reviews, data analysis, polling, focus groups and depth interviews
  • Co-authoring independent research reports
  • Generating imaginative and credible policy ideas
  • Commissioning, editing, and overseeing work of Bright Blue Associate Fellows and independent experts

Events

  • Devising, fundraising for, and chairing a variety of Bright Blue events, including roundtable discussions and keynote speeches with high-profile decision-makers and opinion formers
  • Attending and representing Bright Blue at roundtable discussions and public events

External affairs

  • Engaging with, and building a network of, key stakeholders such as civil servants, special advisers, representatives from the private and third sectors, academics, journalists and politicians
  • Writing regular opinion articles
  • Representing Bright Blue in the media
  • Becoming a recognised figure on a key policy area
  • Leading Bright Blue’s fundraising efforts
