Job Details

Darren Jones MP offers two annual paid internships - one in Westminster and one in Bristol. The Constituency Intern works primarily with the constituency team and the Parliamentary Assistant to respond to policy queries from constituents on behalf of the MP.

The Constituency Intern will set up files on our management system (Caseworker) and use the Parliamentary Research Service (PRS), the House of Commons library service and Parliamentary Labour Party policy briefings to draft responses to questions from constituents on policy related issues. Responses are then sent to constituents and posted on our policy search tool on our website (hosted by SquareSpace).

The Constituency Intern will work with the wider team to identify trends and concerns that need escalating into written parliamentary questions, interventions in Parliament or wider engagement in the constituency. They will also provide administrative and events support to the constituency team.

Applicants will need to demonstrate excellent research and writing skills, as well as a high level of organisation. The Constituency Intern will need to be a self-starter and able to manage a high volume of requests within agreed service level time frames.

The Constituency Intern will be given a parliamentary laptop, headset, keyboard and mouse and can work from the constituency office and remotely from home. This role will be working with seven other team members (five in Bristol and two in Westminster) with appropriate support and supervision in place. The internship runs from September 2023 to August 2024 and is funded for up to 23 hours each week.
