Job Title: Policy Assistant/Researcher

Job Details

• Develop and maintain detailed knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business and MP’s areas of interest
• Produce external communications including speeches for the MP
• Maintain and build positive on-going relationships with all parties including MP’s, journalists and other key stakeholders
• Produce press releases, liaise with the national media, briefing MP on coverage,meeting deadlines as appropriate and building positive relationships with key individuals
• Produce online graphics and video content with oversight from Communications Manager
• Monitor social media activity and report any relevant trends to the Communications Manager/MP
• Undertake research to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues affecting relevant interests
• Give advice on policy issues
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the MP’s work and areas of interest
• Provide generalist admin support to the wider team, which may include casework and assisting with policy responses
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Other tasks will arise and the successful candidate will be expected to perform other duties to support Ms Ghani in the course of her parliamentary work.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a detailed understanding of Westminster politics and the media landscape
  • Be a self-starter, able to take initiative and drive projects and tasks forward with little supervision
  • Quickly assimilate large amounts of information and turn it around into a brief, speech or online content.
  • Prioritise and manage a demanding workload with ease
  • Posses a high level of written competence.
  • Be highly skilled in the use of digital technologies.
  • Be professional and organised when working to tight deadlines
  • Be a good communicator, who works well as part of a small team
  • Ideally hold two years of experience in Westminster or be able to demonstrate professional experience that can transfer from a related-sector
  • Be sympathetic to the principles and policies of the Conservative Party.
