Liam Byrne is looking for a Constituency Intern to work alongside his Constituency Support Officer and small but effective team in Birmingham to support work reaching out to and representing the constituents of Hodge Hill. This is an exciting opportunity for people who are interested in what happens inside an MP’s office as well as a window into how it connects to Liam’s work in parliament. This will be a part-time role, working for ? day per week. Some flexibility in working hours may be required.

Responsibilities
• Providing necessary administrative support, complementing the existing work done in Liam’s constituency office.
• Monitor current local issues/legislation and parliamentary affairs as relevant to the subjects and policy areas that Liam is currently working on.

• Helping Liam with research on subjects and policy areas that are currently relevant to his work, both at a parliamentary and constituency level.

Supporting the casework team.

Skills necessary
• Hard working and diligent in research, with an attentive eye for detail.
• Clear communication, whether in person, over the phone and in writing.
• An ability to work individually or as part of a small, flexible team.
• Well organised and able to prioritise according to current policy priorities or needs.
• Effective IT skills, including with political or casework-related systems. Expertise with Microsoft Word, Teams and OneDrive would especially be appreciated.
• An ability to analyse data effectively and apply this to policy research and development.
• Sympathy with the beliefs and values of the Labour Party and a desire to champion and improve the lives of working people.
• Knowledge of the Hodge Hill constituency and Liam’s policy work would be highly appreciated.
