Job Details

Kim is looking for a candidate with excellent communication and writing abilities, a strong understanding of how to take up and resolve enquires from constituents about personal issues, such as housing, planning, benefits system as well as dealing with Home Office cases, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Duties will include:

  • Responding to, and dealing with, correspondence, telephone enquiries and emails from constituents and providing timely responses.
  • Keeping constituents informed, taking appropriate actions promptly, monitoring progress, analysing patterns of enquiries, and producing reports.
  • Liaising with government agencies, Council members and staff, NHS, voluntary sector, businesses, and other agencies to resolve problems.
  • Responding to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, including drafting letters, e-mails, and other relevant documents.
  • Managing and progressing a portfolio of casework, including logging cases on the Caseworker.MP system (training will be given).
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation/guidelines and provide briefings on casework issues and undertake relevant training as required.
  • Ensuring that cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner, adhering to GDPR principles at all times.
  • Supporting the MP at monthly surgeries
  • Attending off-site surgeries around the constituency with partner agencies.
  • Occasional evening and weekend working will be required.

Skills required:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a positive and flexible approach.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and pay keen attention to detail.
  • Good organisational skills, motivated and able to work independently and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
  • Excellent IT and Administrative skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Previous experience of handling casework, including immigration, housing, and the benefit system.
  • Substantial experience of working and dealing with the public
  • Ability to manage a large and varied caseload under pressure and carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard.

Desirable Skills:

  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
  • Local knowledge.
