Alex Chalk MP is seeking to appoint a self-motivated and hardworking Senior Communications Officer to join his busy parliamentary office.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual dedicated to advancing the MP's office and goals through exceptional communication and a robust social media presence. The role involves assisting Alex Chalk MP with constituency issues and proactively responding to a broad spectrum of constituent inquiries. This challenging position requires the ability to excel under pressure, maintain confidentiality, exhibit superior organisational skills, communicate effectively, and deliver precise work within deadlines in a dynamic office environment.

Duties will include, but not limited to:-

• Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
• Ensure online presence is meeting the demands of the constituents, the locality and the MP
• Maintain a social media presence in the constituency and publicise surgeries etc.
• Manage the MP’s website contents
• Prepare media briefings
• Responsible for the management and development of the external communication presence of the MP office
• Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
• Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
• Oversee the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media
• Respond professionally, sensitively, confidentially and with integrity to routine correspondence and enquiries by email, telephone, social media and face to face from constituents, the media, lobbyists and pressure groups
• Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate
• There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally

Desirable:

• Experience of working in Parliament
• Strong understanding of parliamentary protocols and conventions

Candidates should have the following skills:-

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong research skills
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Enthusiastic and willing to learn about the constituency
• The ability to maintain complete discretion and confidentiality

Interview/Start Dates

Will take place on or before 10 May 2024. Role to commence as soon as possible given the circumstances of the successful applicant.
