July’s Election led to a record number of Independent Candidates being elected. The 5 Independents (Shockat Adam, Jeremy Corbyn, Adnan Hussain, Ayoub Khan and Iqbal Mohamed) have come together to form a Parliamentary group called the Independent Alliance. The Group is committed to Social and Economic Justice.

The Alliance are seeking a capable Researcher, with excellent written communication skills to support our work in Parliament. Working for all 5 MP’s, you will need to understand the views of each MP and reflect these in your work.

Reporting to and working closely with the MPs’ Chief of Staff your work will feed into the MP’s contributions in Parliament. This is a unique opportunity to become a key member of the Independent team, delivering change across the UK. You will monitor Parliamentary business, help prepare the MP’s for weekly business, and provide briefings on Bills.

You should have a background in research and an analytical approach to tasks, be confident carrying out research and managing your time effectively. A knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the constituencies is essential.

Key Requirements:
• Undertake research on relevant subjects. Analyse, evaluate, and interpret data ensuring the MPs are accurately informed.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of Parliamentary business.
• Ensure the MPs are fully briefed on potential questions and motions.
• Work with colleagues in the constituencies, progress casework & respond to correspondence.
• Prepare briefing material (and potentially speeches) for debates.
• Working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business.
• You may occasionally be asked to issue press releases, so experience of dealing with the media is desirable.

Person Specification:
• Undergraduate degree in a related field.
• Masters degree is desirable.
• Experience in a similar role.
• Working knowledge of Parliament.
• Excellent political judgement.
• Excellent research & analytical skills.
• Able to work independently & enjoy working as part of a wider team.
• Able to prioritise tasks & work to deadlines.
• Show discretion dealing with confidential & sensitive information.
• Excellent IT skills.
