Job Details
David Reed MP is seeking a full-time Parliamentary Researcher to join his Westminster office, working alongside his Senior Parliamentary Assistant. This role will support policy research, communications, and social media.
The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a robust grasp of politics and public policy. Experience in policy research, communications, or social media is highly desirable. Knowledge of the Exmouth and Exeter East constituency, and wider East Devon area, is preferable but not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Research and manage responses to policy queries from constituents
• Prepare briefings and undertake research on relevant policy areas
• Manage and monitor social media and online presence, including producing graphics and video content
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local media outlets
• Draft and issue press releases at local and national levels
• Write weekly columns for local media
• Produce and manage website content and a regular newsletter
• Engage with social media comments and queries
• Align the media strategy with constituency priorities in coordination with the wider team
• Support the wider office as required
Essential Skills & Requirements:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality communications material
• Ability to manage policy casework efficiently and handle high volumes of emails
• Experience with social media platforms, including creating and editing online graphics and video content
• Strong time management and attention to detail, with the ability to deliver work to a high standard under pressure
• A 2:1 degree-level qualification
• Professionalism, political awareness, and diplomacy
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
This role is predominantly office-based in Westminster, with some constituency travel required (expenses reimbursed). Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary to assist with events alongside the MP.
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
