Job Details

Connor Naismith MP is looking for a highly committed individual for the role of Communications Officer in his busy office based in Crewe.

We would love to hear from candidates who have a passion for politics and current affairs, a creative eye and an aptitude for developing digital content. An awareness of issues relevant to Crewe and Nantwich is desirable.

Person specification:

• Relevant experience in a communications role, or similar role
• Knowledge and experience of creating engaging content, monitoring interactions and responding to enquiries
• Digital communications experience, including proficiency in social media use including Facebook, X, Instagram and Next Door
• Developing engaging content including copywriting and graphic design
• Highly competent in use of IT, Canva/other design software, video editing/captioning and Microsoft office
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Highly motivated, well organised individual, who can manage and prioritise a demanding workload, take initiative and meet short deadlines
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, while also working effectively as part of a small team
• A good knowledge of the constituency, community organisations and local media would be an advantage
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour party, and ability to articulate its key policy positions and values

Key responsibilities:

• Monitoring media coverage, liaise with the media, meeting deadlines as appropriate
• Running digital campaigns and producing online graphics and video content
• Developing engaging content using a variety of methods for social media and print
• Work closely with other members of the team to ensure that the media strategy aligns with the needs of the constituency
• Regularly evaluating the impact of comms and producing media monitoring reports
• Manage and monitor social media enquiries, transferring cases to the caseworker
• Managing the website
• Proactive and reactive comms including preparing press releases, e-newsletters, articles and traditional print items
• Developing and delivering a strategic communications plan

There may be a requirement to work outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
