Job Details

Sarah Bool MP is recruiting a Parliamentary Assistant for her team based in London to undertake policy and parliamentary research along with some media handling.

Key responsibilities:
• Preparing briefing packs on various topics and in depth research – including taking notes of meetings and drafting appropriate submissions
• Preparing briefing notes for committees
• Preparing parliamentary speeches
• Drafting written and oral questions
• Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business and procedures
• Give advice on policy issues
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
• Assist Sarah in her roles – currently on EFRA Select Committee, Bill Committees, PPS roles (Shadow Home Office and Attorney General) etc
• Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
• Supporting Sarah’s campaigns in South Northamptonshire and Westminster
• Writing letters to Ministers and external bodies on behalf of local residents
• Liaise with constituency based and other organisations in support of Sarah’s campaigns.
• Assist on the design and execution of regular constituency issue-based surveys.
• Liaise with constituency based team on issues
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Key criteria:
• Excellent political judgement and the ability to think and plan strategically
• Initiative and creativity in dealing with the variety of tasks and multiple priorities that Westminster presents daily
• A strong understanding of how to use Parliament to best support Sarah's objectives
• A positive attitude, self-motivating, super organised and able to adapt quickly to different situations
• Excellent writing and communication skills with an attention to detail
• Identify with the aims and objectives of the Conservative Party

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
